Delamere Forest is one of Walking Mums’ most popular walks and a firm favourite for families looking to enjoy the great outdoors. This beautiful woodland route takes you through towering pine trees and peaceful forest trails before reaching the Visitor Centre and Forest Café, making it the perfect destination for a relaxed morning with friends.
The route is mostly flat and follows wide forest paths, making it ideal for pushchairs and little legs. Along the way you’ll discover beautiful woodland scenery, seasonal colours and plenty of wildlife, creating a different experience every time you visit.
One of the highlights of this walk is stopping at the Forest Café, where you can enjoy a well-earned coffee or lunch while little ones make the most of the fantastic play area nearby. It’s a walk that feels like a real day out and one that many of our mums return to time and time again.

Delamere Forest, Cheshire.
Parking
Free parking is available at Barnsbridge Car Park (WA6 6NB). If the car park is full, safe roadside parking is usually available nearby.
Toilets
Toilets and baby changing facilities are available at the midway point at the Visitor Centre next to the Forest Café.

Pram Friendliness

One of our most pram-friendly walks. The route follows wide forest tracks throughout and is suitable for most pushchairs.
Accessibility
The main forest paths are wide and relatively flat, making this route suitable for most pushchairs.
Scenery
Beautiful woodland, towering pine trees, seasonal colours and peaceful forest surroundings. Keep an eye out for deer, squirrels, birds and butterflies.
Play Area
There are 2 large, themed play spaces located next to the Visitor Centre, making this one of our best walks for toddlers and older children.
Picnic Spot
Picnic benches are available around the Visitor Centre and throughout the forest.
Distance
Approximately 2.5 miles, taking around 1 to 1¼ hours at Walking Mums’ relaxed pace.
Terrain
Wide compacted forest trails. Mostly flat with a few gentle inclines. Some sections may become muddy after prolonged wet weather.
Best Age Group
Suitable for all ages, from newborns in prams to toddlers, preschoolers and older siblings.
Route Description
Meet at Barnsbridge Car Park and follow the main forest path towards the Visitor Centre.
Continue along the wide forest trail following the signs for the Visitor Centre until you reach Delamere Forest Café.
Stop at the café for refreshments, toilets and a chance for the little ones to enjoy the nearby play area.
When you’re ready, simply retrace your steps along the same route back through the forest.
Continue following the main path until you arrive back at Barnsbridge Car Park.
Potential Risks
- Some paths may become muddy or slippery after wet weather.
- Tree roots and uneven natural surfaces in places.
- Cyclists may use some shared forest paths.
- Wildlife, including deer and squirrels, may be encountered.
- The forest can become very busy during weekends and school holidays.
- Please supervise children in the play area.
- Wear suitable footwear, particularly during wetter months.
