The Lymm Dam Walk offers the perfect combination of peaceful woodland, beautiful waterside views and the charm of Lymm village. This scenic route takes you around the picturesque dam, through mature woodland and along well-maintained paths, making it an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors with little ones.
You’ll be surrounded by nature throughout the walk, with plenty of opportunities to spot ducks, swans and other wildlife. The ever-changing scenery means the walk is beautiful in every season, from spring flowers to vibrant autumn colours.
Many of our mums love finishing the walk with a visit to one of Lymm’s fantastic independent cafés. Whether you fancy a coffee, lunch or a browse around the village’s unique shops, it’s easy to turn this walk into a lovely morning or afternoon out with friends and family.
Why We Love This Walk
“I love the Lymm Dam walk as its great in all weathers, trees provide shelter from rain and shade from the sun and are a great sensory experience for little ones to watch as you’re walking by. It’s a relatively flat walk and is suitable for prams or carriers. The Crown is a great mid walk break point too, they are always welcoming and there’s a lovely, shaded garden area to sit in as well as the very spacious bar area with lots of room for Prams”

Location
Lymm Dam, Lymm, Cheshire.
Parking
Free parking is available in the Lymm Dam car park, situated off Crouchley Lane car park. Additional on street parking is available nearby if the main car park is full. Weekends can be particularly busy, so arriving a little earlier is recommended.
Toilets
Public toilets are available near the main entrance to Lymm Dam, but are currently closed, toilets are available at the Crown, our mid way stop or if you head into the village itself..
Café Nearby
There are several fantastic cafés within a short walk of the route, making this the perfect walk for a coffee afterwards. Lymm village offers a great selection of independent cafés and coffee shops. This walk takes you to The Crown.
Pram Friendliness
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
Suitable for most pushchairs. The main paths are generally wide and well maintained, although some woodland sections can become muddy or uneven after wet weather. Larger-wheeled or all-terrain pushchairs are recommended.
Accessibility
Most of the route is accessible, although some paths are uneven and may be more challenging following heavy rain.
Scenery
Beautiful woodland, peaceful waterside paths, mature trees, wildlife and picturesque views across Lymm Dam.
Play Area
There isn’t a play area directly on the route, but there are parks within Lymm village if you’d like to extend your visit.
Picnic Spot
There are plenty of benches and grassy areas around the dam, making it an ideal place to stop for a picnic during warmer weather.
Distance
Approximately 2.5–3 miles, taking around 1 to 1¼ hours at Walking Mums’ relaxed pace based on two loops.
Terrain
A mixture of gravel, woodland and compacted earth paths. Mostly flat with a few gentle inclines.
Best Age Group
Suitable for all ages, from newborns in prams to toddlers and preschoolers. A lovely choice for mums looking for a shorter, scenic walk.
Route Description
Meet at the entrance to Lymm Dam from the car park.
Follow the main path around the edge of the dam, taking the left hand route around the Dam.
Continue through the woodland, following the clearly marked paths.
Enjoy the scenic views across the water as the route loops around the dam.
Once you exit the Dam near the zebra crossing, turn left and continue walking along the main road towards The Crown
Once you are fully refreshed, retrace your steps back completing two loops of the Dam, or head straight back along the road past the Church Green Pub (currently closed) on your right before reaching the car park.
Potential Risks
- Open water around the dam – children should be supervised at all times.
- Some woodland paths can become muddy and slippery after wet weather.
- Tree roots and uneven ground in places.
- Cyclists, runners and dog walkers may use sections of the paths.
- The route includes a section along a main road. Please take extra care around traffic, keep children close and be mindful when crossing roads.
- Fallen leaves during autumn can make some paths slippery.
- Limited parking during weekends and school holidays.
- Please wear suitable footwear, particularly during wetter months.
