Stockton Heath Walk
Walk CategoriesWalk Regions

Starting and finishing at The London Bridge in Stockton Heath, this lovely circular walk gives you a surprising mix of countryside, quiet tracks and peaceful canalside scenery, all within easy reach of the village.
The route takes you away from the busy centre and along quieter paths before joining the canal for a relaxing walk back towards Stockton Heath. It’s a great example of how quickly you can leave the roads behind and feel like you’re somewhere completely different.
The mostly flat route is pram friendly, although there are some dirt tracks, cobbles and uneven sections to navigate along the way. Once you’re back, The London Bridge is perfectly placed for extending the meet-up with a drink, coffee or something to eat.
Why We Love This Walk
“My favourite walk is Stockton Heath Walk. It’s my favourite because within no time at all you leave a busy village and enter beautiful countryside with animals and amazing scenery (if going down the canal path). I also like have a nosy at all the posh houses 🤣🤣 it makes it special when you find a new route local to you that you enjoy that you can do anytime. Just need to be careful of the water.“

Pram Friendliness
⭐⭐⭐☆☆
The route is suitable for most pushchairs and is predominantly flat.
There are dirt tracks, cobbles and some uneven sections along the way, so a pushchair with larger wheels will make these parts easier to navigate.
After prolonged wet weather, some of the unsurfaced sections may also become muddy.
Accessibility
Although much of the route is flat, the dirt tracks, cobbled section, gates and uneven surfaces mean this wouldn’t be one of our most accessible routes.
Scenery
A lovely mixture of countryside, tracks and peaceful canalside scenery.
One of the best things about this walk is how quickly the surroundings change. You start close to the centre of Stockton Heath before finding yourself surrounded by greenery and eventually enjoying a peaceful walk alongside the canal.
Play Area
There isn’t a play area directly on the route, so this walk is more about enjoying the walk itself and having somewhere lovely to stop afterwards.
Picnic Spot
There are places to stop alongside the canal and surrounding green spaces, although we’d recommend The London Bridge or one of Stockton Heath’s cafés if you’re looking to stay afterwards.
Distance
Approximately 2–3 miles, depending on the exact route taken. Allow around 1–1½ hours at Walking Mums’ relaxed social pace.
Terrain
A mixture of pavements, dirt tracks, cobbles and canal towpaths.
The route is predominantly flat but has some uneven sections and can become muddy following wet weather.
Best Age Group
Great for newborns and babies in pushchairs, as well as toddlers who are happy staying in the pram for sections of the walk.
Older children who are confident walkers may also enjoy exploring the countryside and spotting boats and wildlife along the canal.
