Moore Canal Pram Friendly Walk

Walk CategoriesWalk Regions

The Shed Moore Canal Walk is a lovely little countryside escape pram friendly walk and a great choice when you fancy a shorter, relaxed walk with a really good coffee stop waiting for you at the end.

Starting from The Shed in the pretty village of Moore, we head out towards the canal for a peaceful out-and-back walk surrounded by countryside. The route is just over two miles, so it’s a really manageable pram friendly distance for a social walk while still giving you plenty of time outdoors.

The canal path is peaceful and scenic, with plenty of wildlife to look out for along the way. It’s pram friendly, although the surface can be a little bumpy and muddy in places, particularly after wet weather, so bigger wheels definitely make life easier.

Once we’ve finished, we head straight back to The Shed for drinks, snacks and a catch-up. With free parking, fantastic coffee and a Walking Mums Supporter discount, it’s one of those simple walks that makes for a really lovely morning out.

Why We Love This Walk

I love this walk because it’s so simple – free parking, a lovely countryside walk and one of my favourite coffee stops waiting for us when we get back! The canal is really peaceful and it feels like you’re properly out in the countryside without having to do a huge walk. At just over two miles, it’s also a great one for days when you want to get outdoors but don’t fancy anything too long. The Shed really makes this walk for me. Being able to finish, grab a great coffee and sit down for a proper catch-up with everyone turns a relatively short walk into a lovely morning out

Pram Friendliness

⭐⭐⭐☆☆

The route is pram friendly, but this isn’t one of our completely smooth pushchair walks.

The canal path can be bumpy and muddy in places, so a pram with larger or thicker wheels is recommended. It’s absolutely doable – just be prepared to give the pram a good push in places!

Accessibility

The uneven and sometimes muddy canal surface means this may be more challenging for lightweight pushchairs.

Conditions can also vary considerably depending on recent weather.

Scenery

A peaceful mixture of canal views, open countryside and the rural surroundings of Moore.

The area is particularly good for wildlife and bird spotting, so there’s usually something to look out for as you walk.

Play Area

There isn’t a children’s play area on this particular route.

For little walkers, it’s worth bearing in mind that the canal environment and uneven paths mean they’ll need close supervision.

Picnic Spot

There are plenty of peaceful countryside surroundings along the route, although we prefer heading back to The Shed after the walk for coffee and something to eat.

Distance

Just over 3 miles. Allow approximately 1.5 hours for the walk at Walking Mums’ relaxed social pace, plus plenty of time for coffee afterwards!

Terrain

Predominantly canal towpath and natural tracks.

The route is generally flat but can be uneven, bumpy and muddy, particularly following wet weather.

Best Age Group

Ideal for newborns and babies in suitable prams, as well as parents looking for a manageable, shorter walk.

It’s less suited to very young children walking independently because of the canal and uneven surfaces.

Potential Risks

  • Not double buggy friendly: This route is not recommended for double prams due to narrow sections along the route. If you’re attending with two little ones, a single pram and carrier may be a better option.
  • Road walking and traffic: Parts of the route involve walking alongside or crossing roads. Please take extra care around moving vehicles, keep children close and use designated crossings where available.
  • Open water: Much of the walk follows the canal. Children should be supervised closely at all times, particularly where the canal edge is unfenced.
  • Canal paths can be uneven and bumpy in places.
  • The route can become very muddy and slippery after wet weather.
  • Puddles and standing water may make some sections more difficult with a pushchair.
  • Cyclists, runners, anglers and dog walkers may share the canal towpath.
  • Some sections of the towpath can be narrow, so please take care when passing other path users.
  • Grass, vegetation and overhanging branches may encroach onto the path at certain times of year.
  • Please take extra care around bridges and any changes in path level.
  • Young children walking independently should remain close to an adult due to the proximity of open water and roads.
  • Suitable footwear is recommended, particularly following wet weather.

Please note: These are new walks, so if you spot any errors or inaccuracies, please email hello@walkingmums.com; the potential risks listed are not comprehensive, so please also consider any specific risks for your family and the conditions on the day.
