Victoria Park Warrington Walk
Walk CategoriesWalk Regions

This is a lovely longer family walk starting at Victoria Park, taking you through the park before heading towards Latchford and joining the canalside paths.
Its a great option if you’re looking to get a few more steps in while still enjoying a relaxed walk and plenty of time for chatting.
There is a mixture of park paths, pavements and canalside walking, with plenty of green space and water along the way. You’ll also have lots to spot as you make your way around Victoria Park, through Latchford and along the canal.
The walk includes some road sections, so extra care is needed with little ones, particularly around the busier roads.
And, of course, there’s a very important part of the walk — the café stop! We can stop at Pennie’s Bakehouse for coffee, cake or something to eat before heading back.
If you’re looking for a longer walk, you can also make the route even longer by retracing your steps after the café stop rather than taking the shorter return route.
Why We Love This Walk
“I love this walk because it’s a great way to get a bit more walking into your day without it feeling like a really challenging hike. Victoria Park is a lovely place to start, and then you get a nice mix of different surroundings as you head towards Latchford and along the canal. I also love that there’s a café stop built into the walk. Pennie’s is perfect for a coffee, cake or something to eat and gives us a chance to sit down, have a proper catch-up and refuel before heading back“

Pram Friendliness
⭐⭐⭐⭐☆
The majority of the route is suitable for prams, with park paths, pavements and canalside paths.
There are some road sections and areas where you need to take extra care, particularly with walking children.
Accessibility
Much of the route uses established paths and pavements, although the length of the walk and road sections should be considered.
Scenery
A lovely mixture of Victoria Park, green spaces, trees, canalside walking and views across the surrounding area.
The canal section is particularly peaceful and gives you a nice change of scenery from the park and roads.
Play Area
There’s a playground at Victoria Park, right near the start/finish of the walk and at Black Bear Park midway through the walk.
Picnic Spot
Victoria Park & Black Bear Park has plenty of open green space and places to stop for snacks.
Distance
Approximately 3.5 miles, taking around 1½ hours at Walking Mums’ relaxed social pace.
Want to make it longer and avoid the roads? After the café stop, you can retrace your steps and extend the walk rather than taking the shorter return route.
Terrain
A mixture of:
- Park paths
- Pavements
- Roadside walking
- Canalside paths
The route is generally manageable, although there are some sections where extra care is needed.
Best Age Group
It’s particularly good for families who are happy with a slightly longer walk or for little ones who can walk some of the route but still use a pram when they get tired.
Route Description
Start at Victoria Park, near the Skatepark.
With the Skatepark on your right, continue straight along the path.
At the top of the path, turn right and keep going straight.
Continue straight, going underneath three bridges.
After the third bridge, there is a stone hill leading into Black Bear Park. Walk up the hill.
Walk towards the playground and across the field towards the top-left corner.
Turn left onto the pathway and keep walking until the end of the path, where you will come out into Latchford village.
Once you leave the pathway, cross the road using the pedestrian crossing and go through the tunnel. Toast will be on your right.
If you wish to visit Pennie’s, cross the road using the two pedestrian crossings. Pennie’s is the end shop on the right, just before the car sales garage.
☕ Café stop! Take some time to enjoy Toast or Pennie’s and have a well-earned coffee, cake or something to eat.
Once everyone is ready, begin the return journey.
If you’d like the longer version of the walk, retrace your steps along the route and follow the same path back.
Leave Pennie’s and turn right. Cross the zebra crossing outside the Post Office and walk straight past the shops in Latchford village.
Continue walking straight past the ball hall and down Knutsford Road.
Once you reach the White Bridge, you can enter the pathway you started on and retrace your steps back to the Skatepark.

- Busy roads: There are busier roads along the route, including the A5061. Use pedestrian crossings where available and take extra care when crossing.

- Uneven surfaces: Some paths may be uneven, particularly around parkland and canalside sections.
- Weather: Paths can become wet, muddy or slippery following poor weather.
- Dogs: The route is popular with dog walkers. Please supervise children around unfamiliar dogs.
