Walton Hall & Gardens Walk

Walk CategoriesWalk Regions

Walton Hall & Gardens is one of our favourite places for a family walk, and it’s absolutely perfect for what Tiny Trekkers is all about – getting little ones outdoors, exploring and walking together at their own pace.

Starting near the main entrance to the Gardens, this circular route takes you around the beautiful grounds, through woodland areas and past the pond before looping back towards the heart of Walton Hall & Gardens.

The paths are generally wide and pram friendly, while still giving toddlers and little walkers plenty of space to explore. We take this one at little-leg pace, with plenty of stops and opportunities for everyone to catch up.

And the walk is only part of the fun! Once we’ve finished, there’s the free Children’s Zoo, a huge playground and plenty of open space to explore. Add a café stop into the mix and you can very easily turn this into a full morning or afternoon out.

Why We Love This Walk

I love Walton Gardens because there’s just so much for little ones to do. It’s a really nice walk in its own right, with beautiful gardens, woodland, the pond and loads of open space, but what makes it special is everything you can do afterwards. The free Children’s Zoo is always a winner, the playground is brilliant and there’s plenty of space for toddlers to run around and explore. It’s also one of my favourite walks for that tricky stage when little ones don’t want to sit in the pram anymore but can’t necessarily manage a long walk. We can take it at their pace, let them explore and still enjoy being out walking together. With the café, zoo, playground and gardens all in one place, you can easily spend hours here

Pram Friendliness

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a really pram-friendly route.

The majority of the walk follows established paths through the Gardens, making it suitable for most pushchairs.

It’s also ideal if you have a toddler who wants to alternate between walking and going back into the pram!

Accessibility

Much of Walton Hall & Gardens has established paths and relatively gentle terrain.

Our route does include some slopes and natural parkland sections, so conditions should always be considered following poor weather.

Scenery

Beautiful landscaped gardens, mature trees, woodland, open green spaces and the pond make this a really varied family walk.

There’s plenty for little ones to look at and explore throughout the route.

Play Area

This is one of the biggest reasons we love Walton Gardens for families.

There’s a large children’s playground which is perfect for extending your visit after the walk.

It’s a brilliant incentive for Tiny Trekkers too – finish the walk and then it’s playground time!

Picnic Spot

Walton Gardens is fantastic for picnics.

There are large lawns and plenty of green spaces where you can stop, have something to eat and let little ones enjoy some time outside.

Distance

Approximately 2 miles, depending on the exact loop taken.

Tiny Trekkers walks are deliberately completed at a slower pace, with plenty of opportunities for little walkers to stop, explore and regroup.

Terrain

Predominantly established park paths with some gentle hills and slopes.

The route is generally easy to navigate with a pushchair, although some sections may be more difficult following prolonged wet weather.

Best Age Group

Especially good for toddlers and preschoolers.

It’s also suitable for newborns and babies in prams, and older siblings are very welcome.

This is one of our best walks if you’ve reached that stage where your little one doesn’t want to sit in the pram for an entire walk anymore!

Follow the paths around the upper-right section of the park, completing the smaller loop before returning to the main path.
